WHO ARE OUR BENEFICIARIES?

The General Public

Our music sessions aim to foster community engagement, promote social cohesion, and enhance overall wellbeing through inclusive and supportive programs available to all members of the community.

Individuals with Physical and Mental Health Problems

With tailored programs we seek to address the needs of individuals with physical and mental health issues by offering accessible music sessions and therapeutic activities designed to promote physical and mental wellness.

Families of Individuals with Health Problems and their Carers

Recognising the critical role families and carers play in providing support for people living with physical and mental health problems, we provide sessions to reduce caregiver burnout, and improve the family members’ own wellbeing.

BENEFITS FOR THE COMMUNITY

Enhanced mental health

Participating in music therapy and drum circle activities has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression. By offering these sessions, we aim to improve the mental wellbeing of community members, especially those who lack access to traditional therapy.

Improved physical health

Engaging in drumming, percussion activities and dancing, even if chair-based, can enhance physical coordination, increase energy levels, and provide a form of physical exercise that is both enjoyable and beneficial. These activities will support the physical health of participants.

Increased social cohesion

Our activities bring people together, fostering a sense of belonging and community. By creating inclusive spaces where individuals can connect through music, we wish to build stronger, more supportive community networks.

Access to therapeutic resources

Many individuals in marginalised communities do not have access to adequate therapeutic support. Our CIC tries to bridge this gap by providing free or low-cost music therapy sessions, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to benefit from these valuable resources.

MEET THE TEAM

MUSIC THERAPISTS
Profil_ZsF2.jpeg
Drum Therapy Collective was founded by Zsuzsa Foldes who is an HCPC registered music therapist, and a member of the Drum Circle Facilitators Guild. Zsuzsa grew up in Hungary and later graduated with an MA in Music Therapy from the University of Jyväskylä in Finland.

"Playing the drums has always brought me joy. By bringing drums into different communities and creating opportunities for people of all ages to connect through rhythm, I can share my passion and the many benefits that come from making music together — the spark of a groove, the freedom to express emotions, and the deep sense of connection with others. It’s energising, powerful, and wonderfully playful."

Amina Hussain is Principal Flute of Manchester Camerata, and has freelanced as an orchestral flute player since leaving the RNCM in 1998. She has worked with many major orchestras across the UK and abroad, playing BBC Proms concerts, festivals such as Glastonbury and Isle of Wight Festival, and numerous orchestral recordings and live broadcasts for radio and television, in both classical and pop.

Alongside her career as a stage performer, Amina is a registered music therapist specialising in dementia, older adult mental health and adult learning disability. This has put her in a unique position of being a music therapist resident within an orchestra, and allows for her roles as a performer, community musician and music therapist to inform and develop the role of the orchestra within it’s own local community. Amina also advocates for her work through media channels, having appeared on BBC Breakfast and radio stations numerous times and won an ABO award in 2024 for contributions to arts and health.

In April 2025, Amina was invited as a guest of HRH King Charles' Reception at Windsor Castle, in honour of her considerable contribution to Community Music.
